Home Safety or Business Safety Survey
What is it?
A home or business security survey is a 30-minute walk-through around your home or business. The survey identifies, assesses, and implements key security risks throughout your home space. It focuses on the prevention of break-ins and reducing vulnerabilities.
Who Does It?
An employee with the Midtown Neighborhood Association will come to your home or business to conduct an in-person survey. At the completion of the survey, the homeowner or business owner will receive a report of recommendations to increase the vulnerabilities throughout the home.
Why Do You Benefit?
A home or business security survey provides the homeowner or business owner with a greater understanding of the key areas of risk. The survey determines ways to mitigate break-ins through low-cost home improvements. At the end of an assessment and small modifications, a homeowner will begin to sense of security.
How to Schedule?
To set up an appointment a homeowner or business owner can select a time on the calendar below by adding the details of the home address and contact number to appointment detail or a homeowner can contact the Midtown Neighborhood Association by phone at 616-732-9191 or by email at midtowngrandrapids@gmail.com.
Tips
Landscape with safety in mind. When you walk around your property, keep in mind areas that could be potential hiding spots for thieves. Try and clear anyway any overgrown areas of landscaping.
Get to know your neighbors. Take time to meet and engage with people on your street and encourage them to watch out for any suspicious activity when you’re not home.
Lighting and visibility matter. Dusk to dawn light fixtures can help add security and provide light when needed. Also consider using automatic timers or smart lightbulbs that can be controlled remotely to turn lights on and off in various parts of the house to help make it seem like you are home. Make sure you can see who is at your front door without opening it. Avoid placing valuables where they will be visible from the street, and do not place your home alarm panel in a place where people can see you arming it from the outside.
